MAGGI J DOWN UNDER!

A view of Birmingham from Down Under. I recently took an Emirates flight to Adelaide for a short break, catch up with friends and chance to sample their many fantastic South Australian wines, many grown within a stone’s throw of the City’s boundary…

Whilst the City, being 1.3m people is undoubtedly a local powerhouse with a glorious climate it somehow lacks the underlying grit and energy of Birmingham, something we tend to overlook or take for granted. The amount of space they have is beyond comprehension but for property folk like me looking for stable growth, potential capital gain & secure underlying income our counterparts play a chess game with a limited audience of demand that can only go so many ways. This is so different to home with a fundamental limit in supply and local plus national audience of investors looking to park their money and developers wanting to contribute to the City’s next phase of growth…

The Birmingham City Council planning department unquestionably holds back market progress. It is now desperately under resourced and needs to be staffed up to reflect the status of the City and its desire to readily accept and encourage investment. In Adelaide the wide clean boulevards, tremendous suburban homes and limitless Aussi rules football talk in every home and bar put us to shame. They regularly win the most liveable Australian City award and can teach us about quality of life…

In a nutshell it was a joy to see so much Jaguar and Land Rover plus other West Midland based product on their streets but it has refocused me on the amount of potential there is in Birmingham property and the scope for improving our own quality of life.
